The five types of pipelines cover the following:
ASTM A358 CL1- Pipes shall be double welded using the filler metal process in all channels and shall be fully radiographic.
ASTM A358 CL2- Pipes shall be double welded using the filler metal process in all channels. No X-ray photography is required.
ASTM A358 CL3- Pipes shall be single welded using the filler metal process in all channels and shall be fully radiographic.
ASTM A358 CL4- Same as Class 3, except that welds exposed on the inner surface of the pipeline can be carried out without adding filler metal.
ASTM A358 CL5- Pipes shall be double welded using the filler metal process in all channels and shall be subjected to on-site radiographic testing.
